It is directly connected to the Pharmafilter system. The Tonto shreds the released waste materials from the ward in a simple and hygienic way and makes them processable via the Pharmafilter platform.

Safe & efficient
As care staff are able to dispose of biologically infectious and hazardous waste directly on the ward, it no longer needs to be transported through the hospital. This yields significant benefits in terms of health and infection risks for staff, patients and visitors. In addition, nurses have their hands free for other matters. Thanks to its safe design, the user is never at risk to come into contact with the Tonto's blades. If overloaded, the unit switches off automatically.

User-friendly & hygienic
A ground station has been developed for the Tonto equipped with a special pallet truck, which makes the unit easy to move around. The opening of the Tonto is positioned on the front side at an ergonomic height. It is always ready for use. The hatch of the Tonto closes with a foot pedal, minimising the need for contact. After each use, it is automatically cleaned under high pressure (5 bar).

Location and communication

Each Tonto uses software to know where it is located in the building and adjusts its settings accordingly. The Tonto is connected to the data centre network where all activity is recorded. This provides the hospital with direct insight into the number of processing tasks and the performance of each Tonto. A malfunction is automatically forwarded to the front-line maintenance service.

Solid waste

The solid waste that is filtered in the first step of the process is also treated in the Pharmafilter installation. The organic fraction of this waste stream is subject to fermentation, yielding biogas for the production of sustainable-renewable electricity and heat. The remaining waste undergoes a process of dewatering and decontamination.

Following this, the waste can be safely separated so that plastics and precious metals can be reused. This waste disposal method increases circularity options and reduces the hospital's CO2 footprint, as well as waste collection and disposal costs.

Only benefits
The Pharmafilter approach yields benefits for stakeholders across the entire spectrum of hospital management: clinical, executive and financial, operations and facilities, the environment and sustainability. The result is a value proposition that enables your hospital to devise a robust economic and clinical justification for investments in sustainable, clean technology.
