Olla

The Olla is an innovative single-use bedpan made of bioplastic. This bedpan is comfortable, stable and is suitable for both men and women. The innovative design drastically reduces the exposure to contact interactions compared to commonly used steel bedpans. It also reduces walking distances, which makes the work of nurses more efficient and hygienic.

Designed with the patient in mind
The bedpan is easy to use and the ergonomically shaped seat is comfortable. If needed, a handle can be attached to the side of the Olla and can support up to 150kg in weight. The Olla is more stable to sit on than a standard steel bedpan. Also, due to its use of bioplastic, the Olla doesn't feel either cold or hot. The elevated section at the front also makes it easy for women to use the Olla.

Partition and scale markings
The separation of urine and faeces allows for easy collection of samples for examination. The Olla's graduated markings make it easy to measure passed fluids.

Lid
The supplied lid provides a complete seal to prevent unpleasant odours and avoid accidental spillages. The membranes in the lid allow a sample to be taken for examination, even after being sealed.

Sustainability
The Olla is single-use and can be completely shredded and disposed of by the Tonto. This eliminates the need for a high water/energy consuming bedpan washer. Thanks to the use of biopolymer, the Olla is 100% digestible in the Pharmafilter system.

Solid waste

The solid waste that is filtered in the first step of the process is also treated in the Pharmafilter installation. The organic fraction of this waste stream is subject to fermentation, yielding biogas for the production of sustainable-renewable electricity and heat. The remaining waste undergoes a process of dewatering and decontamination.

Following this, the waste can be safely separated so that plastics and precious metals can be reused. This waste disposal method increases circularity options and reduces the hospital's CO2 footprint, as well as waste collection and disposal costs.
